Parent Appointment Support Worker
Providing engagement to children during client appointments and support groups

Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic offers trauma-informed legal services and representation, counselling and multilingual interpretation, and drives system transformation to support women and gender-diverse people who have experienced violence. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Parent Appointment Support Worker while parents access Clinic services. In this role, you will play a crucial part in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children while their parents attend appointments and support groups on-site at the Clinic. This is a part-time position with flexible hours aligned with the scheduling of support groups and appointments. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with Barbra Schlifer Clinic’s Mandate, Mission and Values Statements.
PARENTAL SUPPORT
- Provide compassionate care and activities for children during Clinic appointments and support groups
- Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that support the emotional well-being and development of children
- Foster a positive and supportive environment, considering the unique needs of children in varied
circumstances - Ensure the safety, comfort, and positive experience of children under your care
- Collaborate with parents and session leaders to address any needs or concerns related to the children
OTHER
- Provide support as needed in preparation and set up for group sessions
- Attend team and all-staff meetings and trainings as required
- Compliance with all Clinic policies and procedures
- Perform any additional tasks as assigned
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
- The Parent Appointment Support Worker will report to and be supervised by the Director of Interpreter
Services & Operations or her designate - This role supports and works collaboratively with all client-facing departments on an on-going basis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous training and/or experience in childcare
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive space for children from diverse backgrounds
- Sensitivity to the unique needs of children whose parents are seeking support for gender-based violence throughon-site support groups and appointments
- Strong understanding of feminist, anti-oppression and anti-racist frameworks
- Ability to have compassion for and communicate effectively with clients
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when encountering difficult situations or performing job responsibilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both clients and workers; communication is
grounded in an understanding of trauma and its impacts - A second language is considered a strong asset

SALARY: $25.00 per hour as scheduled
DURATION: Flexible hours as needed and aligned with the needs of support groups and client appointments
