Senior Women Survivors of Violence (TSAES Project)
Economic insecurity remains a critical challenge for women and gender diverse survivors of violence, often due to systemic discrimination, financial abuse, and employment barriers.
The Barbra Schlifer Clinic is launching an initiative to create lasting change by tackling these issues through community engagement, professional development, and policy reform.
Through our trauma-informed approach, this project works toward dismantling systemic discrimination and ensuring that senior women survivors of violence are not only protected but also given the resources and opportunities to thrive.
Our Approach
Sharing Women’s Stories
Raising awareness through storytelling and community events to make voices heard.
Teaching Financial Skills
Offering workshops on managing money, budgeting, preparing for jobs, and avoiding scams.
Helping Survivors Find Jobs
Working with employers and community groups to teach useful skills surrounding job readiness. Workshops will include topics such as resume writing, interview preparation, networking, and building connections.
Improving Laws & Services
Collaborate with survivors for improved policies in healthcare, legal services, and workplaces to remove barriers for older adults.
Incentives
- This program is free of charge for all participants with honorarium
- Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate of completion
- In-person and virtual program delivery (ZOOM/Microsoft Teams)
- Networking opportunities with various professionals from different sectors
- Snacks and refreshments will be provided during in-person sessions
Eligibility
- Women survivors aged 50+
- Prior experience with community support group or group work
Financial Independence for Senior Women Group
Join our supportive 4-week program—online or in-person—designed to help senior women survivors of violence rebuild financial confidence and independence. Learn about money management, financial exploitation, work options etc.
- No previous experience is required
- Registration required
- Sessions offered in English.
- Topics include: Avoiding Financial Fraud and Scams, Resume Writing and Interview Skills, Budgeting, etc.
- Honorarium will be provided.
- Sessions are offered in person and virtually

The sessions will run online and in person every Tuesday and Thursday from 12pm-1:30pm beginning Tuesday August 19, until Thursday September 11.
